At school today we had to make a flagpole with only

using newspaper,sellotape and a flag that flew at the top.

Also it had to be standing up when the time was up (which was 20 min).

It was quite hard but in the end we got the flagpole up.


This is the flagpole that Ross and I made.The flag has N.Z on it.

The School Library is an awesome place because

every Friday we go return and renew our books.

Even though the library it's self is small we still find books to enjoy.

Our School Swimming Pool

We are so lucky to have our swimming pool up

and running because it's a lot of fun.
Everyday (if the weather is good!) we go

swimming twice a day!!`

Even though it's so cold we still in

enjoy our swimming.

Zoo Whiz

Zoo Whiz is a great site for learning your Maths, Spelling and Reading.
The ages go from six to fifteen years and over,
with more than five different levels. When you complete an activity,
you get coins to spend at the shop.
At the shop you can buy animals for your own online zoo!!
Everyone at school loves to play on Zoo Whiz on rainy days.

Makuri School Trail Ride 2012

On Sunday 5th of February is the Makuri School Trail Ride.This is the 6th annual trail ride. It's about bikes, having fun and riding all day.It's on a local farm on the Pahiatua-Pongaroa Road approx. 15 mins. from Pahiatua. Course briefing at 9:30am (sharp).We have 3 motorbike tracks- Beginner, Intermediate and Expert.
You get a yummy lunch included in your entry fee.
We’ve got spot prizes galore and a raffle with a first prize of a chainsaw.
The trail ride helps to raise funds for our school.
It will be great fun and we are looking forward to seeing you there.

Pet Day

On the third of November 2011 Makuri School had a Pet Day.
The stalls were -
Shooting Hoops, where you had to throw the basket ball into the hoop,
Nail Drive, where you had to hammer the nail into a block of wood,
Coin Drop, throw any kind of coin and if you hit a coin then you get that coin,
Bike Skills, a competition to see who can take the longest to do a u turn WITHOUT putting your foot out,
Marbles in the Jar, where you guess how many marbles in the jar, and Guess the Weight of the Class.

Pet Day 2011

Pet day was on the 3rd of November, I took my pet called Gringo.
There was also some stalls like Shooting Hoops and Nail Drive.
It was very hard on nail drive because the wood was hard.
My best score of hits was fifteen and the winners was twelve hits in.
At the whole Pet Day, every kid's pet or just the kid won first place
and it was the best Pet Day ever.

In term three we painted a picture on the shape of a plate.

Everyone in the school did one.

My one is a tree with two people standing
under it because it is a sunny day. It is telling a story.

On the outside of the plate there is a pattern of:

line, line, line, triangle over and over again nine times.

Cycling Skills

On the 28th and 29th of September, Constable Kendrick came to teach us about riding safely on roads and how to check our bikes.

First we all helped Constable Kendrick get the gear we needed, orange cones, fire hoses, a ladder, a Stop sign and a Give Way sign.

Next we set up the course including a small u-turn, weaving through big cones, riding on a straight line and going over a ladder.

After that we had lots of practice on the course. I thought that the u-turn was the hardest because we had to make a very tight turn. We also used our hand signals to turn left, right and to stop.

The next day we repeated everything again, this time Constable Kendrick was judging us to see who was the best. The winner goes to Woodville for the Bush Cycling Skills!! This year Diamond and I are both going to the Woodville competition competing against other good riders.

Cycling Skills

On the 28th and the 29th of September, Constable Kendrick came to the school to teach us some cycling skills. On the first day, we checked that our helmets and bikes were safe.

Next, we set up the course on the court and then went biking.On the course there were stop signs, give way signs, ladders to ride over and lots more like fire hoses and u-turns.

On the 29th we had the Makuri Cycling Competition.Diamond and Tessa are going to represent Makuri at the Woodville Competition.

I hope they do well in Woodville.

Ski Trip 2011

On the 22nd and 23rd of September, we went up to Turoa ski field, for our school trip.

First I collected our super fast skis, tight boots and long poles.After that everyone went to their lessons. Mrs K, Alice and I had our lesson at Winter Garden and we were very lucky to have two hours with our ski teacher Sebastion.

Sebastion took us on the third highest ski lift called the Movenpick. We had to go really fast on that field. It is really fun going down the run, but the chair lift ride is really long!!

Next we could have free time, I liked going down Clarry’s track and coming up the chairlift again. The next day was even better because we had races on Winter Garden and went over the jumps.

I had a great time and the weather was awesome on both of the days.

Today we have had a really good morning,

There was snow everywhere.

Almost our whole school is going except three people.

I am doing five minutes swimming, 15 minutes biking

Jump Rope For Heart

What an energetic day, skipping and running.
Scott, Tessa, Diamond, Alice and Caleb were almost out of their
precious breath after a day of tiring activity.
Energy was pumping through the room in massive bursts.

Criss cross, Double dutch and the Swing are all types of awesome skips to learn.
Skipping takes a lot of practice and hard work for all of us.
It’s pretty hard trying to cross your arms and skip at the same time.

Afterwards we all did a healthy eating worksheet.
The food looked really yummy and nutritious!
Caleb wanted to eat it all.

Pretty soon we will all be eating nourishing foods and keeping fit.

Money For Christchurch Earthquake

Makuri School has been getting money for the Christchurch earthquake,
to help the city.We are going to donate it to Red Cross and the S P C A .

We have been getting the money by washing cars,
selling Rosemary ribbons
at the cricket, holding a sausage sizzle at the Country Club,
catering for the working bee, morning tea and lunch.

It is has been fun and we have raised $949.29.
There are only seven of us so you
can see we have been working very hard.

Moshi Monsters

One of the things that Tessa likes reading is "Didja know that...". It has amazing facts that you would probably not know.

A tiring day. My heart pounds against my chest.
All the seniors went to the Heart Foundation Jump Rope at Palmerston North. Liam and Ross went to Te Manawa.
It was burning hot.
I was going to my drink bottle every minute at lunchtime!

A record holder, jump rope person, called Peter did some tricks and they looked awesome, because they looked hard!

My friends Aidan, Clay and I were saturated with sweat.
We were sweating so much our socks were
wet, so we did skids with our feet!

At the end of the day we were all exhausted!
I think that day, was a very fun day for all of us.

On the 27th of May 2011, my school went to Jump Rope for Heart.

It was awesome.

It was a inspiring when Peter, a pro at skipping,

jumped on the unicycle and was skipping at the same time.

We did a bit of skipping too, it was tiring.

We learnt how to do heaps of new moves, skipping some

of them was really difficult and different.

At one point my heart was pounding out of my chest like a

TV about to blow up in front of me.

When it was lunch time I played tag with some friends.

We did some more activities after lunch.

When we were finished we went back home
and the school day was over.

Jump Rope For Heart

What a tiring day!

All of Makuri school pupils went to the

Jump rope for heart workshop.

The workshop itself was all about

skipping and other ways to skip.

There were HEAPS of children there and

lots of schools.

The people who took it were

really skilled

and clever at skipping.

It was really hard to

learn the tricks, but I got there.

I learnt how to do criss cross.

To do criss cross you have to skip then

cross your arms and skip through it.

At the end of the day we got a little ball

that had beans in it. The ball was a prize for a quiz we did and got third.

Now everyone is much fitter than they were

before.

Discovery Time

Last week we did Discovery Time and we played a barrier game.

This is how you play:

Each get the same colours and the same colouring in pictures.

Then you set up something so that you can make you

can not see the other persons piece of paper.

Now you can start the game. Someone says what

to colour and the other person listens to them and

colours it in so you both colour in the same things.

After you have coloured in everthing you see if they are the same.

They get you the most points.

There is also the Academy whitch has stet tasks and free learning.

Once you finish an activity, you get to spin the prize wheel.

In the Arcade there's a game called Penpen's Express.

My Holiday in Christchurch

I went on a plane for the first time!

It was fun and there was lots of food like

On the way to Christchurch,
there was another earthquake.

When we where waiting to go to the airport
there was a massive aftershock

and it made our car jump off

the ground and made our car go from side to side.
I went down there for a wedding.

Yesterday the 6 of February it was the Makuri Trail Ride.
It was my first year on it.
I live on the same farm.
In the morning my bike kept stuffing up,
but Dad found out what was wrong.
There was a big dirt hill and I did burn outs going up it.
A burn out is when farm surface flicks up.
I learnt never to ride right behind my friend Campbell
because I got covered in dirt and it went down my shirt.

Last School Day 2010

Last Wednesday we spent the last school day of 2010
at Akitio with our family, friends and dogs.

Although the morning was a little misty but we had
lots fun - running along the beach,

wave jumping, climbing up on the piles of
driftwood and making sand castles.

We had huge yummy parcels of fish and
chips from the local store for lunch.

At Pet Day there was a stall that was advertising rocking horses. Mr and Mrs Cunningham have their own website and they make them by themselves.

· Alice was in charge of a stall for the first time.

· The adult’s cakes were amazing.

· All the children were very well behaved.

· The sack races were really fun.

· The men were funny trying to beat each other at the Nail Drive.

· Diamond's stall was a fun idea.

· Mr. Poulton won lots of prizes.

· We loved seeing all the grand parents at Pet Day.

· We had really cool judges.

· The sausages were well cooked.

· The Fubbles were a successful idea

· The children’s stalls were well organized and run.

· Liam played hopscotch before Pet Day started.

· Every time Caleb went to have a go at Diamond’s stall he wasn’t there.

· Tessa’s lamb was very young and found it hard to do the leading and the calling.

· We sold the drinks very cheap.

· We didn’t have enough sausages for everybody.

· There was a lamb wondering around.

· Liam got head butted by his lamb - ouch!

· We didn’t have enough time for the motorbike rides.

· We had to wait to wait a long time to see who won inside.

· We didn’t have the flipper race.

· Jenna couldn’t come to Pet Day.

Interesting

· Caleb’s mum won two prizes.

· All the baking was really creative – lots of good ideas.

· Caleb had to stay up all night to make and ice his caterpillar cake.

· There was a lamb in the staffroom.

· The cake auction was fun and fast.

· Diamond won the children’s Nail Drive.

· We had to keep all the dogs separated from each other.

· Gypsy brought herself Pet Day.

· Ross liked eating Bianca’s winning cake at home after Pet Day.

· When Caleb got home, he stood on the lead and cut his foot.

Inch Worm

Lately, our class has been obsessed with Inch Worm.

It is an awesome game where you move
around boxes to get Inch Worm home.

There are 24 levels that get really hard!!

On Pet Day we had the 'Where's The Hidden Lolly'.

It was a fun stand.

Lots of people came, so there was lots of cash.

On 10/11/10 was Makuri School's Pet Day.

It was a great day with awesome games and some really cool stores.

My favourite stall was the coin drop.

It is a game where you drop a coin into a container of water
and if it lands on anothercoin you get your coin
and the coin you landed on back!

There were loads of great pets and kids that had a lot of fun.

At Pet Day Alice and Liam had a stall called Coin Drop.

It does not cost anything to have one throw.

There are two lines, one for kids and one for the adults.

You throw your money into the container and try to

hit another coin.If you hit another coin you get your coin

and the other coin as well.

At Pet Day on Wednesday, I was in charge of the Nail Drive and it

was fun. My first customer was Scotty.

The hammer had a sloppy handle,

so Tessa and Alice's Granddad got a hammer with a wooden handle.

Mr Poulton won after a "nail off" with Mr Blathwayt and Scotty.

Renee won for the Woman's competition

Diamond won for the Children competition.

Tessa's lamb Bobbie didn't like being on the lead. He kept on trying to run away. When her mum and dad came Bobbie got out of the box and she had to catch him. Bobbie is one week old, she thinks that he was very good.
