We conducted our own experiment using Diet Coke and Mentos. Next time we are going to think about how we can get the Mentos into the Coke faster to create a bigger reaction.

Small School's Road Race

Not quite sure why this is called a road race given the amount of grass but the effort on the faces of our runners tell the whole story. Well done to everyone and especially to our youngest member of the school who was 3rd in her category. Well done Indi!

Ice Skating

Although the weather wasn't very kind, we had a super day ice skating in Palmerston North. We found out that skating on wet ice is pretty tricky. The rink was filled with helpful orange seals.

Weetbix Tryathalon 2017

What a great day everyone had at the Weetbix Tryathalon in Palmerston North. The weather was fine and there was a super atmosphere. Well done to all of the Makuri learners who participated and to the family members who were there to support their young people.

Minor Sport Day in Pahiatua

What a lot of fun our 4 junior learners had at this event. Thanks to the parents for their supervision and care on the day.

Jack, Ngaia, and Ross have finally finished the air powered car. It looks great but it doesn't work yet. They have to do some problem solving to find out what has gone wrong. They suspect that some of the seals aren't quite right because it is leaking air.

Open Day

We held the first Open Day for 2017 and had a terrific response from those in the community with preschoolers and also parents who already have learners at Makuri School. The parents had great fun with some of the equipment, finding out that it's not really 'child's play'.

Bush Schools' Swimming Sports

Congratulations to Ngaia, Ross Liam, and Jonty who placed in their age group at the swimming sports.

Our Limericks

We worked hard to make sure that our limericks were funny but it was quite hard.

There once was a doctor from Plip,
who failed to learn how to flip.
He tripped on a ball,
bounced off a big wall
and kissed his boss on the lips.
by Ngaia.

There once was a boy called Matt
who kept a banana under his hat.
He slipped on a peel,
landed under a wheel
and ended up feeling quite flat.
by Jack.

Once there was a man called Jack
who slipped over and hurt his back.
He landed in the pool, not looking very cool
and now he's got a date with an ice pack.
by Liam.

Oh no! The beach day was cancelled

We had a beach day and sleepover planned but the weather at the beach was not very good so we had a day in Palmerston North at Flip City and the Lido Pool.
